Treasures Of Appalachia:
Not your usual arts & crafts shop
Treasures Of Appalachia, opened at Cosby, Tennessee, off Highways 321 in 2003 through the combined efforts of Len and Varena Landrum, Doug and Marie Bittinger and Maria Holloway.
It now encompasses the creative talents of almost 50 local artists and craftspersons. The quaint log cabin gallery offers all sorts of hand made, locally produced art and fine crafts, from needle work to wood work, from pottery to hand forged knives to basketry, and of course, paintings.
Treasures Of Appalachia features paintings on canvas, paintings on wood, paintings on tiles, paintings on mailboxes, ironing boards, rocks, saw blades, and antique heaters. Ovaleen Andersen once quipped, "If it don't move, I'll paint it!" And she's just one of several talented painters who display their work in the Treasures Gallery.
But it's more than just a gallery. Treasures also hosts Art7 Craft Gatherings throughout the year beginning in March and running through October. Artists from all over the region come to display their work in these shows. The shows are open from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
The schedule for the 2005 season is:
  • Art & Craft Gathering April 8th & 9th
  • Art & Craft Gathering May 13th & 14th
  • Open House (Boys & Girls Club) June 11th
  • Red, White & Bluegrass: July 1st & 2nd
  • Art & Craft Gathering August 12th & 13th
  • Apple Pickn' Days: September 9th & 10th
  • Open House - Bladesmiths: October 8th
These artists are also working up a schedule of classes and workshops offered to the public to share their talents and encourage others to become involved in the arts.
Treasures Of Appalachia is at 3892 Hwy 321 in Cosby, adjacent to Holloway's Quilts, near the intersection of Jones Cove Rd and Hwy 321. The gallery is open 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and can be reached by phone at (423) 487-3111 during business hours. They also have a web site at www.TreasuresOfAppalachia.com.
