Cosby's Third Art &
Craft Gathering of
the series goes well
COSBY --- The third "Art & Craft Gathering" of Cosby's summer series was another success. With fine weather and good folks gathered from all around the entire area, everyone had a good time.
"All in all, I think the show went quite well." Said Marie Bittinger, one of the show's promoters, "We couldn't have asked for better weather. The number of visitors was a little smaller this month, but most of them were buying, so it worked out."
Those who returned to do this month's show were: Don Colyer; Tennessee River Barbecue, Jo Freshour; photography, Joyce Jones; nature art, Pat Trautman; P & D Pottery, Nancy Gerrick; Nancy's Cottage Crafts - bird houses, Ruth Williams; Baskets By Ruth, Terry Sanchez; Smoky Mountain Whittlers - rustic furniture, Loretta and Max Carns; basketry, Anne Stafford; Magnetic Therapy Jewelry By Anne and Gretchen Whitlow; Lasting Images - who produces sand carved slate and glass pieces. We welcomed back Ken and Georgia Kennedy who had been unable to attend our April gathering. Georgia's fine painted items and hand stitched crafts along with Ken's woodworking are always a favorite. First time participants, the Andersens; Honey Do Crafts, made quite an impression on shoppers. Lynn, who creates useful and artistic wooden items, and his wife, Ovaleen who can transform a rock from the Pigeon River into a work of art, enjoy sharing studio space near their home in Del Rio. Their work is available at Treasures of Appalachia. Also new this time was Mary Ann Beck, of Rosman, NC, who makes and sells her Original Salt Scrub, a softening and rejuvenating wash for your hands.
"Our next Gathering," said Doug Bittinger, "will be held Friday and Saturday, June 11th and 12th. This month we are pleased to help support the Cocke County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Volunteers will be raising funds for their "Heroes Campaign" by selling food and drinks on Saturday of this show."
As always, the Treasures Of Appalachia Art & Craft Gathering will be held at 3892 Hwy 321 in Cosby TN on the grounds of Holloway's County
Home.
Anyone wishing to participate in the show may pick up a registration form at Treasures Of Appalachia or register on-line at www.TreasuresOfAppalacia.com. Those wishing to sell their hand made items will pay a $20.00 booth fee, those who perform or demonstrate only are not charged anything.
A new feature at this year's show's has been the addition of background music. While the majority of the music is recorded, we welcome area singers and musicians who know a thing or two about mountain music to stop by and entertain the crowd. They can consider this month's gathering a warm up for our Red, White and Bluegrass Celebration to be held July 2nd and 3rd. "That weekend we will have some special entertainment including Cosby's own "Mountain Edge", stated Varena Landrum," We still have some time slots open and anyone who is interested in participating in this holiday weekend event can give me a call. The musical entertainment would not be possible without the loan of a high quality sound system from our kind neighbors at Power House Ministries."
"Our purpose for being here and for doing all that we do here is to promote the regions artists." Explains Len Landrum, co-founder of Treasures Of Appalachia.
