It's apple pickn' time in Cosby
On Friday Oct. 1st and Saturday Oct. 2nd Treasures Of Appalachia, 3892 Hwy 321 in Cosby will host it’s final Art & Craft Gathering of the 2004 season. Apple Pickn’ Days celebrates the region’s high apple production with an apple pie contest as the event’s high point.
The contest will be judged by Chef Karen Valentine, head chef at Christopher Place in Newport. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes will be awarded. The pies will then be sliced up and sold with the proceeds going to Smoky Mountain Home Health & Hospice, Inc. You may register for the contest by dropping by or calling Treasures Of Appalachia (423) 487-3111 or log onto their web site, www.TreasuresOfAppalahia.com.
“There is no registration fee,” says Marie Bittinger of Treasures Of Appalachia, “but all participants must pre-register so we can print up a Certificate of Appreciation for each.”
Entertainment for the event will include lots of lively music, including the sweet harmony of The Faith Trio and the bluegrass sounds of The Boone Brothers & Company.
“We’re inviting local performers and groups to come be a part of our celebration with our “Open Mic” periods each day.” Says Varena Landrum, entertainment coordinator for Treasures. “We have a good sound system, so just bring your instruments and do some pick’n and sing’n, and have a great time.”
Varena can be reached at (423) 487-5448.
As always, there will be a wonderful collection of local artisans on hand displaying and selling their hand crafted art.
“We do have some space available,” says Doug Bittinger of Treasures Of Appalachia, ”and we encourage local artisans to come join us. Registration forms are available at the gallery, or you may register by phone (423) 487-3111 or on our web site, www.TreasuresOfAppalachia.com. Booth spaces are only $20 for a 15x20 space. Full details are on our web site.”
